UPDATE (04.14.20):
I hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break last week even though it was a little bit different than we all would have expected. I also sincerely hope you all found time to spend with your family and friends; maybe even the chance to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather! I wanted to take this opportunity to provide you all with some clear guidance on what distance learning will consist of for the rest of the school year. As I have mentioned before, all participation is OPTIONAL and not graded, however, it is certainly encouraged!

Weekly Choice Boards: Each week, I will be posting a choice board underneath of "Files and Documents". This choice board outlines all five subjects with three different choices listed next to each subject. Students can complete any and all activities at their leisure.

Weekly "Direct Instruction" Videos: Per PWCS guidelines for distance learning, teachers are required to provide students with 60 minutes of instruction daily. Some of this instruction must be "direct"; meaning a video of second grade teachers teaching review second grade content.
will have access to five videos weekly; one for each subject (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Writing). Often, you will be asked to follow-up these direct instruction videos with an activity from the choice board. Together the instructional video and activity should take no longer than 60 minutes. Again, you are free to complete any and all activities at your leisure.

*THIS WEEK (04.13.20-04.17.20): Second grade teachers are working hard to develop a concept sequence for the rest of the school year, along with recording instructional videos and creating weekly choice boards. In the meantime, I have created a PRACTICE Choice Board for you to complete this week. I am hoping this will allow you time to get used to the look/feel, as well as ease back into reviewing more content. This practice choice board is located underneath of "Files and Documents".

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns ( or
Class Dojo.

Beginning APRIL 14TH, there will be a new format for PWCS Distance Learning. Second Grade is working hard to develop a format that is easy and accessible to everyone. Assignments and involvement will continue to remain OPTIONAL throughout the end of the school year. I will also continue to post both here and on Class Dojo with weekly/daily updates. Future assignments may include weekly choice boards, a pre-recorded instructional lesson, or a virtual class meeting. All material will be REVIEW. For now, enjoy your upcoming Spring Break (04.04.20-04.13.20).

I will be back in touch on Tuesday, April 14th!

UPDATE 04.03.20
What a BEAUTIFUL day to go outside for a run or walk! You know how much Ms. Meador loves her exercise; I hope you all can find some time to get moving today too....
While I'm on my run today, I wonder how many living and non-living things I'll see?

What is the difference between something that is living and non-living?
-Can you identify some examples of living things?
-Can you identify some examples of non-living things?

UPDATE 04.01.20
It's the 1st day of my favorite month, April! I love all of the excitement of Spring and I especially love all of the jelly beans....can you figure out how many jelly beans there are?

-How many tens and ones?
-What is the expanded form?
-How many addition and subtraction combinations can you come up with for that number?

Take a listen to one of my favorite fictional books, "Unicorn Thinks He's Pretty Great":

Can you identify the THEME? Remember, the theme is one word that describes the overall message the story tells us. For Example: Kindness, Friendship, Teamwork.

UPDATE: 03.27.20
Please let me know if you need anything while exploring the webpage or getting to work.
*REMINDER: Everything that has been provided to you is OPTIONAL and will not receive a grade. I understand how valuable time is and realize that we all operate on different schedules throughout the week. The most important thing you can have your student continue to do during this time is READ! (independently, with you, with an older/younger sibling, or with a babysitter).
Next week Yorkshire will be hosting a virtual spirit week (see below or "Files and Documents" tab). You can share videos/photos of you participating; I would LOVE to see your school spirit!
